You have a Triple-Edge

Check out Psalm 119:98-100. It says:
Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.
I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.
Now that’s a powerful triple-edge that God wants you to have.
You are going to be wiser than those who plan your downfall; have more insight than the talented and learned, and have more understanding than the experienced.
David got a taste of this triple-edge!
Do you know David was anointed as king thrice?
The secret David knew
Anointed by Samuel in the midst of his brothers
David got anointed as a King by Prophet Samuel when he was still a teenager and Saul was reigning as king (1 Samuel 16:13). Even before Saul could convert into David’s foe and stab him, the hand of God was upon David. In every attack from Saul, God’s wisdom came to David’s rescue. God made him wiser than his enemy.
Anointed by men of Judah
David was anointed by men of Judah, who came to him and anointed him king over the house of Judah (2 Samuel 2:4). Further, 1 Chronicles 12 speaks of Saul’s mighty experienced men who came join David. These were Saul’s relatives, bowmen who could shoot arrows and sling stones with both their right and left hands; experienced warriors, expert with shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions and who were swift as gazelles upon the mountains.
They told David: We are yours, O David, and with you, O son of Jesse! For your God helps you. (1 Chronicles 12:18)
Wow, that’s the exceptionally killed, experienced, talented coming over to David, a shepherd boy and saying, please hire us!
Anointed by the elders
Finally, David was anointed by the elders of Israel (1 Chronicles 11:1-3). They made him ruler over all Israel. Their hearts were saying: We have seen in the past how you led and we have seen God’s hand over you. Even though we may be elders, none of us qualify to be the king, but you!
This triple-edge is a promise for every child of God, but it is a result of walking with God. As the psalmist says, your commands are always with me. Means I have hidden your Word in my heart. I keep meditating upon it and I obey what you say. David was a man after God’s heart – In other words, this is how God would describe it: David does exactly what I would do, as if he has a preview of my heart!
No doubt David fell, but because his life was rooted on God’s commands, he could make a comeback.
This year is the year of Staying Rooted in God’s Word. Reading the word is not enough, we need to meditate upon it till it becomes like fire in our bones and we become doers of it. That’s the key to your triple edge!
