Here are the lyrics of one of my favorite Gospel songs, “You’re my brother, you’re my sister” : (see video at the bottom)
Sometimes it’s hard for me to understand
Why we pull away from each other so easily,
Even though we’re all walking the same road
Yet we build dividing walls between
Our brothers and ourselves.
But I, I don’t care what label you may wear
If you believe in Jesus you belong with me.
The bond we share is all I care to see
And we’ll change the world forever
If you will join with me, Join and sing
You’re my brother, you’re my sister,
So take me by the hand
Together we will work until He comes.
There’s no foe that can defeat us
When we’re walking side by side.
So long as there is love,
We will stand.
The Bible speaks of a time, when the whole world spoke a single language and used the same words. It was during this time that these people made a decision to build a tower –a monument to showcase their greatness (Genesis 11:1-4), so much so that God had to step down from his throne to see what they were up to!
It is very interesting to note what God says. In Genesis 11:6, God says, “Look! If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. In other words, if the people are in one Spirit and if they purpose in their heart to do something (not necessarily good, as in this case), NOTHING will be impossible for them.
Thousands of years later, on the day of Pentecost, God filled His people with His Spirit, through whom we are baptized as one and speaking one language of His Spirit. What is it then that is stopping us to do take on the impossible?
