How to Discern the Voice in the Wind

By Pastor Derrick D’souza

Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the WIND WAS CONTRARYMatthew 14:22, 24 (emphasis mine)

In this Scripture, Jesus had already given the Word to His disciples to go before Him and that He would meet them on the other side. That means this Word carried the grace to take them to the other side!

But a contrary wind made them forget that Word which, had the grace to overcome.

Similarly, many of us are given the invitation and the grace to reach the other side as God has promised. Instead, we find ourselves in the middle of the sea of unbelief and raging storms crying out to God for help. We forget that He already gave us His Word that we were going to cross over.

Voice in the wind

The Voice in the Wind

Remember, there is always a Voice in the wind. Don’t be fooled; your enemy is a con-artist and an imposter. The way to know the voice in the wind is not by trying to see how many people attacked you, spoke about you falsely, or put you down. Instead, you need to check your life and see if you are walking in line with God’s Word. Then, regardless of what wind is coming against you, you know you’re in the perfect will of God and will always walk over the storms of this life.

While the boat is in the middle of the lake being pushed by a contrary wind, you have Jesus on the mountaintop praying and interceding for your victory. Speak God’s language (Faith), and do not doubt when you’re in the perfect will of God. God is able to save you perfectly and completely!

“Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.”Hebrews 7:25

Romans 8:34 says, “Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”

1 John 2:1, we read that Jesus is our “Advocate”.

We can either remain stuck in the boat or decide to get out and overcome the contrary winds in our life.

One Word from Jesus

One Word from Jesus can make you walk on water. Jesus told Peter one word “COME”. When Peter held on to that one word from Jesus, he walked on water.

I want to encourage you, child of God, through this post to keep the face of the Word always before you. Don’t look at the surface of the water; rather, hover over it with the Word. No matter how the water reacts, don’t look and let your heart be troubled.

No matter how boisterous it looks, don’t let the water of this world distract you or keep you from walking on water this season.

This season, can you ask God for a command in your life? Just one word from God will make you walk on the sea. God will not always ask you to come to him and walk on water when the sea is calm. But if the God who called you has stood over the stormy seas and the tribulations of this world and calmed them, then know that when you obey His command, you too will walk on a raging sea.

Shalom.
