Where Is Your Gaze?

By Pastor Kim D’souza

By Pastor Kim D’souza

Do you remember a point in time when the Israelites were grumbling and complaining against God in the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land? (Numbers 21:4-9)

And because of their ungratefulness and rebellion, God sent poisonous serpents among the people. These snakes bit many, and as a result, many Israelites died.

When the people realised their mistake they confessed their sin and Moses prayed for them and God then gave Moses a strange instruction. He asked Moses to make a fiery serpent and put it on the pole and everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.

Moses obeyed, Israelites listened, and that worked!

But that same bronze serpent, which God once used as a tool for healing, later became an object of idol worship by the Israelites as we read in 2 Kings 18:4.

Gaze, Voice of God

What’s the lesson here?

The Israelites’ gaze was never on God, that’s why they always needed a miracle or something tangible to lead and sustain them.

Let me tell you, what has to lead you is the voice (Word) of God.

Your foundation, that will withstand every storm, wind and waves has to be the Word that God speaks to you, and not what is seen or felt because your money in the bank, your educational qualification, your job etc., is all temporary.

Guard your hearts from fixing your gaze on miracles, experiences or even leaders, above the One who gave them.

This way when your gaze is fixed on Jesus (His Word),no matter what the storm is around you, you will be unshakable.

Guard your hearts from fixing your gaze on miracles, experiences or even leaders, above the One who gave them
