What’s in your hand?

This was the question God asked Moses when He was trying to convince him to go to Egypt and take on Pharaoh to deliver the Israelites. (Exodus 4:2)

Moses’ reply was plain: “A staff ”

Holding that shepherd’s staff in his hand, Moses tried hard to convince God that he was not the right man to do what God was asking him to do.

  • Who am I that I should go?
  • What if they ask me who has sent you?
  • What if they don’t believe me?
  • Don’t you know that I am slow of speech and tongue?
  • Could you not find someone better to do the job?

..And as long as Moses continued to reason with God, “A staff” is what remained in his hand. But afterstaff this encounter with God, Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and told him that he wanted to go to Egypt (Exodus 4:18). He took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started his journey to Egypt as commanded by God.

As soon as he started, without Moses’ knowledge, a powerful miracle took place.

Read Exodus 4:20 (NIV)–His staff became the staff of God! It was this same staff that Moses used to perform various signs and wonders in Egypt.

Often we miss our God-destined breakthrough when we allow fear and doubt to cripple us from moving forward. Let this post remind you beloved that the key to your miracle lies in that small step of faith. The moment you decide to move in God’s direction, that’s when His might becomes yours; His wisdom becomes yours and His success becomes yours. That’s when staff of man becomes staff of God!
