(By Derrick & Kim)

This is the second part in the Water Baptism series on our blog, where we cover some more questions on the topic. You can check out Part I HERE. If you have any further questions that you want us to address, please email it to olivemediacom@gmail.com

5. Can babies be baptised?

No babies should not be baptised. If you study the Bible, you will notice (a.) Water baptism always follows salvation, i.e. after one believes and accepts Jesus as the Lord of his/her life, and (b.) Not by sprinkling of water, but by complete immersion.

Since both the above conditions cannot be applied to babies, their baptism is erroneous. Further there is no text in the Bible that supports infant baptism. You can however dedicate your child to the Lord at birth.

6. Someone told me that after I get water baptised my problems will increase. Is it true?

When Jesus got water baptised, heavens opened. And that’s what we believe will happen. Remember whenever you obey God’s Word, all of heaven stands in your defense. Troubles are a part of this world, irrespective of whether you get baptised or not, and at the same time God’s Word stands forever- in Him and through Him you will overcome.

As you are preparing for your water baptism, expect open heavens, expect a fresh outpour of His Spirit, expect unspeakable joy, expect supernatural breakthroughs.

7. Will I be filled with the Holy Spirit when I get water baptised?

We can’t limit or predict how God the Holy Spirit operates. Some people get filled with the Holy Spirit as soon as they receive Christ, while some during water baptism and some ever later. If you are preparing for water baptism and you are not yet filled with His spirit, you can believe and claim God’s promise of infilling of His spirit as you obey His Word.

8. How to prepare for water baptism?

Spend a lot of time in Word and prayer.  Read and meditate on the book of Acts especially.  Also at the time of water baptism keep yourself open and uninhibited before God. Sometimes you may feel or sense something different as you get baptised, while sometimes you may not, so  don’t go by your feelings or emotions. But know by faith that as you walk in obedience to God’s Word, His presence surrounds you, and all of heaven is rejoicing with you.

9. I have been water baptised before but for the wrong reasons, now that I know the truth, can I get baptised again?

Baptism is of enough importance that it should be done again, if it was done for the wrong reason or in the wrong way. So if you feel you were baptised out of ignorance of God’s Word, compulsion or out of an overflow of emotions or any other wrong reason, don’t wait any longer get in touch with your pastor or youth leader and express your desire to get baptised again.
