Follow Me..

These two words were all that Jesus used to choose His disciples.

And the Bible says that ‘at once‘  or ‘immediately‘ the fishermen (Matthew 4:20, 22) and tax collector (Matthew 9:9) followed Him.

The Gospel of Mark 10: 17-22 speaks about another man ran up to Jesus and fell on his knees before Him.

Jesus said the same words to him: “Follow Me.”

I thought this young man could easily have been the 13th disciple of Jesus! However the man was grieved in his heart and he went away from Jesus.

Why?

There’s something that the eyes of all missed, but Jesus saw.  The man had many crowns on his head that he had earned from the world. Crown of wealth, crown of position, crown of influence, crown of goodness — He had it all. He knelt before Jesus, but his  crowns were too precious for him to let go.

In Mark 10:21 we read: Jesus looked at him and loved him.

If only the man knew that he was laying up his crowns at the wrong place. If only he knew that the crown of eternal life that he wanted could not be earned with all the crowns of this world.

The Bible says: Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. The world and its desires pass away,  but the man who does the will of God lives forever. ( 1 John 2: 15, 17)

Follow Me…The words of Jesus to you remain the same today.

What crown’s are you wearing? Would you lay it down?
