Running from your Past?

By Pastor Kim D’souza

So after he had lived in Canaan for ten years, his wife Sarai took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to Abram to be his wife. And he slept with Hagar, and she conceived. But when Hagar realized that she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she fled from her. Now the Angel of the LORD found Hagar by a spring of water in the desert— the spring along the road to Shur. Genesis 16: 3-4, 6-7

Dear Hagar (You, who are fighting your past)

It is I who made you and formed you, I call you by name. You do not know me, yet I am the One who has been pursuing you and I have found you. I am El Roi, the God who sees, unlike the gods of your ancestors who have eyes but cannot see, who have ears but cannot hear.

So come let’s talk.

I see you. I see you carrying your past in your womb, and you are running. But the road you are running on is not your destiny. I know you have been broken emotionally and physically but I want you to go back (in time). Because running away from your broken past is not the solution. You will leave the door open for it to keep coming back to you. You ran from a place of bitterness and offence. Doesn’t matter who was right and who was wrong, but I want you to go back (in time) – forgive and let go. You can’t run from offence, you have to deal with it. And remember your identity is in ME not in what people have spoken over your life.
Don’t run from your past, bring it to God

Let go because your future is at stake.

Let go of your pride because it’s not worth it.

Let go because what I have in store for you is way beyond you.

And as you humble yourself and submit to my word, I will fight all your battles. I will wipe away your past hurts and be the ring of fire around you.

Don’t weep over your broken dreams because I am going to replace them with dreams that are beyond even your imagination. I have a promise for you. A promise that no other woman will receive after you. I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.

For I am the God who not only sees, but also hears. I stoop down from heaven and reach out to you. Do not be afraid for I am with you.

Love,
Jesus
