1. It doesn’t use a Content Management System (CMS)
A CMS site simplifies design and updates to the level of low-level word processing. With a CMS you can regularly add new content, create new pages, new links, add images etc without bearing additional costs for these changes. In addition, the process takes place online, which means that the website can be updated from any computer with an internet connection.
2. You don’t have an email sign up form
Now that’s a blunder. This shows to me that you are not thinking long term. To share your message, you need a listener. An email sign up form will provide you with listeners (email ids) who are open to hear from you. Make sure you have this form on the prime spot of your website.
3. There is an information overload
Sometimes I see too much of information – that doesn’t always look appealing. Avoid information clutter. Instead simplify your message. You need to find the right balance of providing just enough detail without going overboard.
4. It is not updated regularly- Design-wise & content-wise
Website creation is never a once and done proposition. Web content becomes irrelevant within a few days because of its outdated material. Your website should leave the user with some value add or trigger to visit again. So make sure you are providing fresh content on your website weekly, if not daily. Also, keep fine-tuning it design wise by experimenting with latest plug-ins, attractive icons, colours, images etc.
5. Your website is not responsive
Responsive web design is a new way of building websites that eliminates the need to think about a separate mobile version of your website for each of a variety of platforms. Instead, you spend time designing one site that works on any platform: desktops, tablets or smartphones. It is important simply because day by day the number of devices, platforms and browsers that need to work with your website are growing.
