How Bitterness Can Be a Barrier to Your Breakthrough

In life, there are times we go through situations that cause us to be bitter. And the enemy wants you to be bitter, because he knows that if he can interfere in your thoughts through bitterness, you have lost the battle.
Bitterness can be a barrier between you and your breakthrough. Your pain may be real, but if you don’t overcome bitterness, it can take over your thoughts. That is why you need to guard what you allow in your heart and your mind.
When you are bitter toward somebody, your every thought becomes bitter. You start thinking, “He did this. She could have done this.” A blanket of bitterness comes over you, and that becomes a barrier.
When Mary was about to get married to Joseph, everything was good, and they liked each other, until Mary was pregnant with Jesus (Matt 1:18-20). When Joseph came to know about it, imagine what he must have felt.
He must have become bitter. He could have put Mary down in front of the entire society. Yet, his thoughts were not revenge. He was thinking, “What has happened has happened.” He didn’t want to expose Mary. And that’s how God thinks.
Matt 1:20 says, “But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream.” Do you see that connection? His thoughts became a portal because he was thinking the thoughts of God. At that moment, an angel appeared.
You may have a reason to hold bitterness in your heart, but God is saying, “Can you still give that bitterness, that offense, to Me? Can you refuse to let it contaminate your heart and interfere with your thoughts? When you do that, I will back you up.”
Isn’t it interesting? After this, dream after dream, God began to speak to Joseph. “Go to Egypt. Go here. Go there.” God was now comfortable with Joseph.
Is the presence of God comfortable with your thinking, or are you always crying over your life?
“If only I had this. If only I married that one. If only I ventured into this career. If only I had more money.”
For the superior kingdom to come close to you, it has to be attracted to your thinking.
You need to speak over yourself: “I will not allow hopeless thoughts in my mind.” When those thoughts come, when you feel like there is no hope, open your mouth and say, “Excuse me, hopeless thoughts, no entry. You are not allowed.” That’s how you guard your heart from bitterness and walk in freedom.
Shalom
For the superior kingdom to come close to you, it has to be attracted to your thinking.
