As I was seeking God for a word for this year, I want to share with you what the Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart. Yes, it will be year of fulfilled prophesies and supernatural breakthroughs, but there’s something God is asking us to do.
Back to the basics
We need to come ‘Back to the Basics’ of soaking in God’s word and seeking Him in prayer. Not that I mean you have drifted from it, but the call is much more than ever to persist in these two areas.
Sharpen the Sword of His Word
All that Christ could ever do for you in terms of salvation, healing, victory, deliverance—you name it and He has already accomplished it on the cross of Calvary. I pray that this year God may open the eyes of our heart that we may know our glorious inheritance and the incomparable great power that we have in Him as we believe (Ephesians 1: 18-23).
Only and only the word of God has the power to set our hearts and minds free. That’s why it is so important to mediate, chew, sing and memorize the scriptures as much as we can.
I don’t know how 2012 has been for you but this year rise up, take hold of His word and claim relentlessly every area of your life that publicly defeated devil has dared to trespass upon.
Recently we bought a new sophisticated camera and we were so excited about it. Soon we got a chance to attend a fashion show happening in our city. Armed with our camera we sat next to the ramp to try our hand at fashion photography. But as the show began, we found ourselves struggling with the right kind of settings for the light, mode, shutter speed etc. At the end of it, we simply couldn’t manage even a single decent snap. If only we would have referred to the camera manual before!
Bible is God’s manual for our life and we better know it like never before. Else we will be drifting aimlessly with every storm and every battle that comes our way, knowing not what to do.
God’s instruction to Joshua, after Moses’ death was pretty clear, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8)
If the word of God takes only a portion of your minutes during the day, its time you get back to the basics of meditating on his word more thoroughly this year.
Pray and pray more
I mean pray and not beg. Pray and not doubt. Pray in the Spirit. Pray with His word. Pray and pray ceaselessly.
In the book of 1 Samuel we read about Hannah who had a desperate need; she wanted a child. Every year Hannah would come to the temple and in bitterness of soul pray to the Lord.
God had a need too. Eli’s sons who were the priests at that time were wicked and had no regard for the Lord and He was looking for their replacement.
That day as Hannah was praying, she said to God, “Give me a son and I will give him to you.” Hannah’s need was met in God’s need and Samuel was born!
This year let’s persistently commune with God in prayer and seek what God’s expectation is from us. When you and I move beyond the stage of praying for our own selfish desires and seek God’s heart and His need, miracles, signs and wonders will take birth. And I guarantee you revival will not tarry.
Come 2013. A year of coming back to the basics!
What word/prophesy did you receive for this year from God? We would love to hear…
