ACCORDING TO YOUR ABILITY – PART 1

Do you know that all of us are gifted? Yet most of us walk under comparison. Maybe you have been comparing yourself to someone who is more gifted or talented than you. Or maybe you were compared by your own family to a brother or a sister saying they are better than you.
Matthew 25 talks about a man who entrusted talents to his servants.
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.” (Matthew 25:14-15)
The master gave talents to his servants. But here is the part that should set your heart free: he gave to each one according to their ability.
That means God already knows your capacity. He is not comparing you with someone who has more reach, more visibility, more gifts, or more opportunities. He is looking at what He placed in your hand and asking, “Were you faithful with this?”
When we read that parable further we see how the servant with five talents made ten and the servant with two made four. And when the master returned, he said the exact same thing to both of them: Well Done! (Read Matthew 25:21,23)
There was no difference in his response.
That tells you something about God.
God is not moved by numbers the way people are. He is moved by faithfulness. He is not asking why you did not become someone else. He is asking what you did with what He gave you.
So why are we living under comparison?
When somebody goes ahead of you, thank God. When somebody carries more, thank God. What they have is between them and God. But you have also been given something according to your ability.
You do not need to fight anyone else. You do not need to be offended by another person’s increase. The same God who gave you the gift can come back and give you more.
But first, multiply what is already in your hand.
The man with one talent did not lose because he had less. He lost because he had the wrong image of the King. He believed the master was hard, unfair, and demanding. That wrong image made him bury what was given.
So go back to your beginning. Remember who called you. Remember who gave you something when you had nothing.
Find out what God gave you. Be faithful with it. Multiply it.
And when He comes, may He say to you, “Well done. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
Shalom
