I remember when I was a kid, I looked forward to visit my native place to meet my grandparents. It was always a beautiful family reunion time as all my cousins would gather together at my grandfather’s house.
Now attached to his house was a general store which we kids loved to explore. We would do a quick survey of interesting things on display and then run to our grandfather asking him to buy those for us. And there was something interesting that my grandfather would do – Instead of giving us the money ( since we were small) or accompanying us to the shop, he would give us small bits of papers with something scribbled on it to give it to the shop owner. And when we would present it to the shop owner, he would allow to pick up whatever we wanted from his shop free of cost. This activity was too exciting for me and I really thought that my grandfather was a magician!
It was much later that I came to know that there was a mutual understanding between the shop owner and my grandfather. The shop owner recognised my grandfather’s signature and hence knew it was coming from him and they both would later on settle the accounts between themselves.
You have the name of Jesus!
Beloved do you know that the name of Jesus gives you an authority like that? Through His name, you have access to the Father and so anything you ask will be given to you (John 14:13; 15:7-8). In the name of Jesus there is salvation (Acts 4:12, Romans 10:13) and authority (Philippians 2:10, Mark 16:17). If you really get a revelation of what you have as His child, your life will never be the same.
Do you really know His name?
If your life is not producing mighty exploits for the Kingdom of God, you really don’t know Him because Daniel 11:32 says that those who know their God shall do mighty exploits. If every valley or struggle of your life makes you despair and doubt God’s love, you don’t know His name because Psalms 9:10 says that those who know your name put their trust in you.
Knowledge versus relationship
Going back to my grandfather’s incident, do you think a stranger on the road who comes to know about the paper ‘trick’ and forges my grandfather’s signature will get the same treatment from the shop owner?
No… A definite no.
Why? Simply because the shop owner knew that we are in a relationship with our grandfather, while that stranger is not. Get me?
The key to a life of abundance through Jesus is not in asking in His name but in asking that comes from an intimacy with His name. Authority never comes from knowledge, for knowledge only puffs. But authority comes from intimacy with Him.
Genesis 4:1 (KJV) says Adam knew Eve and Eve conceived. To know Jesus is not to know Him intellectually but to know Him in a personal and intimate manner. To know Him is to become one with Him.
Today let us make a fresh commitment to yearn to know His name like never before. Empty all that you know of Him so far and hunger for His intimacy like never before.
Jesus came to give us eternal life… and this is eternal life that we know Him ( John 17:3).
