8 Tests of a Man Who is Intimate With God

By Kim D’souza

A couple of days ago in my time of meditation, I was led to write these below 8 lines:

The more you know, the more you hunger

The more you know, the more you are humble

The more you know, the more you share

The more you know, the more you steward

The more you know, the more you guard your talk

The more you know, the more you guard your walk

The more you know, the more you serve

The more glory on you, the more you hide

I believe we are living in a strategic Kingdom season where we will see an increasing manifestation of God’s glory upon His children. The supernatural will become more and more natural and the gifts and the anointing of the Lord will come into limelight more strongly than ever before. And this is where God’s children have to guard their hearts lest they are caught hindering the work of the Holy Spirit rather than augmenting it.

Intimacy with God is not an act, it is a lifestyle

Here are 8 ways to test your intimacy level with the Holy Spirit:

1. The more you know, the more you hunger

Spiritual hunger is the key to being spiritually alive. While in the physical realm, the more we eat, the more we feel full, in the spirit realm, it is exactly the opposite – the more Rhema you receive from His presence, the more hungry it makes you. A man who is receiving fresh manna from His table will keep lingering there for more!

2. The more you know, the more you are humble

Pride is such a dangerous thing. How many times have we seen men of God fall prey to pride when His anointing starts manifesting in their lives. They start seeking man’s glory. On the other hand, a man truly walking with the Lord is humble in all his ways and carries a teachable spirit. In Exodus 34:29, we read, after Moses had an encounter with the Lord, he did not even know that his face was shining!

The more you hold the hand of the Holy Spirit, the more you realise how weak and vulnerable you are without Him, and it’s all about Jesus, not you.

3. The more you know, the more you share

When God brings you to your point of breakthrough, you want to pass on your testimony, your mistakes, your victories to others who are struggling and not keep it to yourself. The more grace God gives you, the more you pass it on to others, keeping the kingdom motive in mind.

4. The more you know, the more you steward

Psalms 25:14 says: The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. When you walk in the fear of the Lord, and became a good steward of what He teaches you, you will receive more. You stop taking His heart and His Word for granted.

5. The more you know, the more you guard your talk

The other day I heard a man of God say, God chooses His listeners carefully. I totally agree! Some talk so much that they miss the voice of the sweet Holy Spirit. But a man of God carefully weighs His words. Proverbs 15:28 says, The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.

The more closely you walk with the Holy Spirit the less time you will have for coarse joking, idle words or defensive talks. A man who is walking with the Lord allows his life to do the talking more than mere words.

6. The more you know, the more you guard your walk

The longer we walk with Jesus, the more we learn to say no to sin. As 1 Peter 1:15 says, But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.

You are careful to walk away from every person and situation that breaks the Father’s heart.

7. The more you know, the more you serve

Jesus, being God Himself knew the authority that He carried, yet He chose to serve (John 13:3). Matthew 20:28 says: The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

The more closely you walk with Jesus, the more His life reflects through you. You honour authority, operate in love and are always available to serve.

8. The more glory on you, the more you hide

A man walking intimately with the Holy Spirit values this friendship over everything else. He is not eager to bring himself in positions by his own strength but he chooses to hide, till God Himself positions him in the places he is called to be. He looks for God’s praise rather than man’s.

So, my question to you (and myself) is: How intimate are we with the Holy Spirit?
