5 Keys To Trigger Godly Dreams
By Derrick D’souza

Dreams can be a powerful channel for God to convey His heart to His children. We read in the Bible about the many times God used dreams to speak to his people, prophets and even gentile kings.
Can you imagine, one-third of our lives is spent sleeping, how much more should we ask and expect God to invade our dreams!
For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. He whispers in their ears… Job 33:14-16a
Here are five keys to trigger godly dreams:
- First, fall in love with the dream-giver
Pursue Jesus first, and everything else you will see or experience in your life is going to by default added to your life. Many times we get so enamoured by the supernatural that we lose sight of its very purpose. You don’t have to read books and attend seminars to building yourself in this area. All that is good, but the better way is to get busy loving Jesus and all that He has promised to you in His Word will start manifesting through your life.
- Ask God!
The Bible says, you have not because you ask not (James 4:2). Godly dreams are an inheritance of every child of God. In fact, Prophet Joel foretold of a time when God’s Spirit would enable people to dream. “I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28 (NLT). Every promise of God is for His children and it doesn’t go back void. In fact every promise of God is “yes” and “Amen” in Christ. So boldly ask God to speak to you in dreams and conform things through His Word.
Want to dream Godly dreams – prepare yourselves as per the Word of God
- Start valuing them
Start valuing your capacity to dream. I understand all dreams are not from God, but why not start thanking Him for those that are from Him? How about making a ‘Dream Book’? And start drawing or recording your dreams that you sensed were from the Holy Spirit and how it ministered to you and to others through you! Remember what you place your value over will increase in your life.
- Keep your channel clean
Ecclesiastes 5:3 says, “A dream comes through much activity,” implying that often dreams are natural outgrowths of the stimuli we receive in our waking hours. Therefore it is so important that we keep our channels clean to enable us to receive from God clearly. The Bible says that the eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light (Matthew 6:22). Guard what your eyes are seeing and what enters your mind, else it can distort your dreams.
Here’s the key, Philippians 4:8 : “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy— meditate on these things.”
- Finally, obey God
Godly dreams are for a purpose. More often than not, when God shows you something in a dream, He expects you to do something about it – it could be to pray for someone, or receive correction or direction for your life etc. Matthew 1 and 2 is filled with four instances when God spoke to Joseph through dreams and every single time he immediately obeyed, sometimes in the middle of the night, and even at the risk of getting humiliated or losing his life.
So when the Lord shows you or tells you something, and He confirms it, immediately obey!!! And as you start to be faithful in the little, God will give you more!
